Gieler (1982) is an artist from Amsterdam. Since 2018 transforming discarded teddy bears into timeless works of art by dipping them in ink, to preserve their unique shapes for eternity. Once cherished companions providing comfort for children, these cuddly toys often ended up forgotten in trash cans, their stories seemingly at an end. Through Gieler’s process, their essence is revived and immortalized. Each artwork captures the teddy bear in a unique and original way—sometimes instantly recognizable, other times more in an abstract shaped bear. The ink silhouettes give new life to the iconic toy, blurring the line between nostalgia and modernity.
